President's Message

This is my fifth year volunteering with the Friendship Circle and I couldn’t be more grateful for the experiences it has given me. I have been paired with the same special friend, Robert, throughout all my years volunteering and because of this we have made a special connection with each other which I never would have expected. The Friendship Circle has given me the opportunity to be a part of something I hold very closely to my heart. It has taught me leadership skills, social skills, and of course it has allowed me to meet wonderful people who are as committed and interested in something as I am. I am a part of Sunday circle (Children’s circle) with my friend Robert, and during the time we are together we do many activities such as art, dance, music, karate, and more. This allows him to explore different things he loves to do and allows us to communicate and keep the bond we have together. The Friendship Circle has helped shape who I am today and has given me a second home, as well as many others.

Message from the Director >>

Dear Friends,

Walking 4 Friendship 2018 is only about 6 weeks away!! The Friendship Circle Walk-a-Thon is a major fundraiser for the Friendship Circle. This event helps the Friendship Circle provide all of the amazing social and recreational programs to our community! If you have participated in the past, then you know that it truly is an awesome day filled with fun. Starting with the 3K walk and leading into the Family Fair and Carnival with lots of rides, entertainment and food!

How can YOU help? Here are 5 ways:

1.By signing up on walking4friendship.com and creating a team. Sending out e mails and getting people to contribute.

2. Helping the Friendship Circle get corporate sponsors. Do you have connections to a company or organization you can ask? Perhaps, the company you work for!

3. Helping the Friendship Circle get media coverage for the Walk-a-Thon, it can be TV, radio and/or newspaper coverage.

4. Getting your friends and family to commit to walking that day! Create a team with your co-workers, your friends and family!

5. Consider sponsoring the water bottles, or the soda or the food sold at the event!

There was a great turnout at the Volunteer Workshop! The Volunteers were treated to a barbecue lunch at which they had time for socializing! A Moms Panel which consisted of three moms who have children in the Frendship Circle gave the teens insight into how much they mean to their special friends! It was truly inspiring to hear the moms express how much their children and teens love coming to the Friendship Circle! A round robin setting of three activities all promoting awareness and greater understanding of our special friends was engaging, informative and hands on.  The three sessions featured an applied Behavioral Analysis presentation,  a Perspectives Presentation which was engaging and hands on and Sensory Activities in which teens had to walk in the “Shoes” of their special friends!

The Friendship Circle No School Fun Day on Martin Luther King Day was an outstanding day! Participants and their volunteers enjoyed the Frost Museum of Science. They bonded with science and friendship! Don’t miss it! There’s another No School Fun Day coming up on Presidents Day! You can register online:tinyurl.com/fcpresidentsday

Family Fun Day was fun and exciting as Friendship Circle families had the opportunity to enjoy a barbecue lunch, outdoor activities and a bounce house! Thank you to everyone who joined us.

If you know a child, teen or an adult who can benefit from the Friendship Circle, please let us know!

Warmly,

Nechama Harlig
