JEWISH LEARNING INSTITUTE

Lester & Hilda Chabad Center of Kendall & Pinecrest has been selected to host a local chapter of the Jewish Learning Institute (JLI). The JLI is an adult education institute that offers courses that are highly professional, structured, innovative and academically challenging, yet in a very accessible format. The JLI is designed to give people of all backgrounds a deeper and more meaningful understanding of Jewish thought, practice and heritage.

World renowned authorities on each subject have organized the curriculum and teaching materials for each course. The JLI is accredited by the National Board of License. “This professional learning institute offers a high level of learning. It will be a remarkable asset to the South Dade Jewish community, ” relates Rabbi Yossi Harlig, Director of Chabad Center of Kendall & Pinecrest, who attended a two day instructors-seminar this summer in New Jersey, and will lead the JLI chapter in Kendall & Pinecrest.

In time for the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, this four-session course reflects on the Jewish ethics, ideas, and values that inspired and influenced America’s founders—and still shape our government and society today.

Was it always self-evident that all people are “created equal”? What is the “pursuit of happiness”? What inspired America’s system of checks and balances? And looking ahead, what steps can we take to build a just and united future?
